Phylogenetic Relationships and Evolution of the Androecia in Ruteae (Rutaceae)

Ruta, which belongs to tribe Ruteae, is the type genus of the subfamily Rutoideae and the family Rutaceae. Molecular systematic studies have shown that the genera in Ruteae are closer related to Aurantioideae than to most other genera of Rutoideae, some of the genera traditionally placed in Ruteae have been shown to be nested within the Aurantioideae clade, but the diagnostic characters for det...

Comparative Chromosome Painting in Six Species of Oligoryzomys (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) and the Karyotype Evolution of the Genus

Oligoryzomys belongs to the tribe Oryzomyini, and contains about 22 species. Diploid numbers range from 2n = 44 in Oligoryzomys sp. 2 to 2n = 72 in O. utiaritensis and phylogenetic relationships are not well defined. The high morphological convergence leads to misidentification of taxonomic entities and the species are often identified by chromosomal characters. Until now, the genus has been st...

Evolution in the Genus Drosophila

This little book is the transcribed account of a Highland Park conference on this subject. It was attended by a representative group of persons interested in these basic mechanisms and the discussions were free and informative. The material has been quite well edited and yet has kept the tone of free discussion. This particular volume is somewhat physical and chemical in character and discusses...

Fission in the evolution of a lizard karyotype.

The lizard Anolis monticola has a diploid chromosome number of 48 (24 macrochromosomes and 24 micrcchromosomes). More primitive members of the genus, as determined by bone morphology, have 12 macrochromosomes and 24 microchromosomes. Since the higher chromosome number is the derived condition, this is a case of karyotypic change by centric fission.

Karyotype of four Malayan rats. (Muridae, genus Rattus Fischer).

A great deal of information concerning the Malayan rats (Muridae, genus Rattus Fischer) exists in the literature. However there is no report on the karyotype of these rats. Karyotype information of wild rats in other parts of the world exists, but is scanty. Makino (1942, 1943, 1949b, 1952c) studied six species of Rattus found in Japan. Most other studies have been confined to Rattus norvegicus...
